Day 4 - Betanzos to Bruma
Another long day, not quite as brutal as yesterday but lots more climbing. The climb out of town was much the same as yesterday, with a rapid ascent into the countryside. During the morning I met and walked with a few people. The first was Anthony, an English lawyer living in Bulgaria. He is walking with his Bulgarian partner and another couple of Bulgarian friends. The other was a Dutch lady called Wilhelmina, which she shortens to Wilika.
The whole day was just a climb up to a peak of around 460 metres, just before we reached Bruma. It was made easier than yesterday by chatting as we went. We stopped at a couple of bars along the way. The first was quite remarkable in that buying a couple of coffees resulted in free mini muffins and later some pinxos. Free food is always welcome, and we gratefully accepted.
Later, at the Beche-Folgoso reservoir, Wilika and I had a bit of food before she was collected by a taxi. She had opted to split the day, and will complete it tomorrow. I pushed on with another 120 metre or so climb before finally dropping down to Bruma. I was collected here and driven to my hotel which is about 10km further along the camino route. I will be dropped back the Bruma in the morning to continue.
I fear it may be another long day, and I know there's no support between where I am and Sigueiro where I stay tomorrow night.
A bit of a short post, I'm feeling the strain now, albeit in good spirits. However, that should make Sunday a very short walk into Santiago.
Buen Camino
