Day 1 - Ferrol to Neda

I don't remember sleeping last night, it seemed I was awake throughout. Yet I do recall some dreams. Isn't excitement a strange thing? Up early in order pack my main case, which has to be left at the hotel reception by 8am each morning. Following a fairly leisurely breakfast, I made my way to the Pilgrim office at the start point, where I obtained my Credencial with the first stamp from the office.

The route heads back through the town centre, then off toward the estuary. However, a massive naval base has to be negotiated before reaching the shore, about 4km later. From there onward, there are occasional diversions from the river bank, but there are lots of fine views.

I stopped for a coffee and croissant mid morning, and got another stamp in my Credencial. Then onwards through some delightful rural trails. I passed the beautiful San Martiño monastery, and onward to the ruined Aceas tide mill, just a couple of km from Neda. Making good time, I stopped fro lunch at a little bar restaurant called the O Rincón do Trini. I'm writing the start of today's post as I await my fried baby Squid.

Another 5km to my hotel, the delightful Pazo da Merced, perched right on the river bank to the south of Neda. It's an old building, apparently once a monastery. Here I met Jevon and Fiona, an English couple also walking the Inglés. We had a beer in the courtyard and discovered that we had much in common. The hotel arranged a taxi to take us to a nearby restaurant, the Arrecendo Galego, we had a great evening sharing stories.

And so an early night for all three of us to recover for tomorrow's adventure.
